Life After the Book Deal (plus a cute dog video)

Everyone has ups and downs. The biggest Up I've had in quite a while was my book deal for THE MURDER COMPLEX series. But here's what happened in the time between selling, signing, getting the advance, and now...

Go write. Seriously. I'm working on an amazing Secret Book that I am SO in love with, and even writing this post is taking away from that! The inspiration is back, and I can't WAIT to see what happens with it. Go write. It's who you are. It's what you are. Just do it!

If you write...author dog Hurley will do tricks for you ALL day.

  1. LOL Totally all the things I'm doing right now instead of writing. But hey, checking out other author's blogs should be considered research...or something.
Anyways, I did NOT know it was scientific fact that tiredness = creativity, but I kind of figured it out. See, this last month I found myself stuck in my writing, and I tried everything from changing where I wrote, to going back and editing other stuff, and still nothing. But then I changed my writing hours from the afternoon to night and voila! I'm writing again.
Congratulations on selling your series. I've already added The Murder Complex to my TBR list on goodreads. Can't wait! ;)

  2. I just finished my latest MS and it goes to the editor tomorrow. Taking a break for the weekend, but starting a new project on Monday!

I totally feel you though. When I wasn't writing a few years ago, I was a very unhappy person!!

  3. OMG, how did you know I was on Twitter??! Scary... But if I hadn't gone on Twitter I wouldn't have seen this great post. I stopped writing for two weeks after getting a Big Idea (sort of book related, but not writing). That took up so much time, and I didn't realize I was wilting--wilting, rotting on the vine!!

Then I started writing again and I feel better. :)

Congratulations on your book deal--can't wait to read The Murder Complex!!
Much love from one of your agency sisters and GO TEAM FURY!!

  7. Hi Lindsay. (Hopping over from the fellow judges' list to say hey to a couple people now that CAGI is over and our work is done.)

I liked your video and I'll be sure to remember your advice when I sell my series. ;) I doubt it will be a problem though, because just like you, I recognize that writing is an integral essential part of my life, and that it should stay that way!

Good luck with all your future work.

  8. It's been a while since I popped onto your blog, but when I do, I always seem to get that kick in the pants that gets me going. :) I'm so excited for The Murder Complex and I've been recommending it to all of the YA readers I've been coming in contact with. I know it's going to be fab!

So now I'm going to stop commenting and start doing what you said - write! Good luck with your Secret Book - I know it's going to be phenomenal!
