On the Fringe- Courtney King Walker

On the Fringe
Claire is struggling to overcome the murder of her childhood friend and secret crush, Daniel. Everyone else seems to be moving on with their lives, but she's still trying to cope. The fact that she finds herself alone and drowning on her 16th birthday isn't helping.Neither is thinking she sees Daniel's face in murky water as she mysteriously resurfaces. But something happened during those four and a half minutes that will make her realize it was not just her imagination. As Claire and Daniel try to grasp a possible reconnection, other grudge-holding beings have plans of their own. Now, the two of them have to decide if their fleeting relationship is worth the possibility of Claire being trapped on the fringe forever.Beautifully told, On the Fringe intertwines fresh ideas about devotion, revenge, and the consequences that come with life and death.
ON THE FRINGE released in 2011 from Lands Atlantic Publishing
I loved this book! When I first read the synopsis, I wanted to read this one immediately! The author is the sweetest person ever, and sent me a signed copy so I could spread the word about its fabtasticness.
  • The book starts right out by throwing the reader into the past (which happens frequently throughout the book, and is actually done VERY well), where you really start to see the relationship between some of the characters.
  • I loved Walker's way of writing. It was simple and sweet but beautiful all at once. Walker has the ability to make some great characters, and the heroine, Claire, was so easy for me to like. Every girl in the world knows that feeling of a long-lasting crush...but imagine what would happen if that boy came to you in a not-so-human form? It was so realistically done, and it was so well paced in terms of their growth together.
  • I am a dual-POV writer myself, and the fact that we could see both stories between Claire and Daniel is always an awesome way to allow the reader to really connect with the book.
  • What's great about this one is that it's supernatural-but it feels quite real at the same time. It wasn't hard to believe the story, which sometimes can be an issue with these types of books- ON THE FRINGE made it feel seamless! And the cover??? Yeah. It's one of my favorites :)

Thanks to Courtney for allowing me to read this one- rock on girl, can't wait to see what you come out with next! :)

  2. Oh boy did this one make me cry! LOL I had to take a lot of breaks so I could see through the tears. But I love books that do that! Also, I am extremely senstive so that probably didn't help. Great review! :)
