Review- Partials by Dan Wells

Partials by Dan Wells Humanity is all but extinguished after a war with partials—engineered organic beings identical to humans—has decimated the world’s population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island. The threat of the partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to the disease in over a decade. Humanity’s time is running out.

When sixteen-year-old Kira learns of her best friend’s pregnancy, she’s determined to find a solution. Then one rash decision forces Kira to flee her community with the unlikeliest of allies. As she tries desperately to save what is left of her race, she discovers that the survival of both humans and partials rests in her attempts to answer questions of the war’s origin that she never knew to ask.

Combining the fast-paced action of The Hunger Games with the provocative themes of Battlestar GalacticaPartials is a pulse-pounding journey into a world where the very concept of what it means to be human is in question—one where our sense of humanity is both our greatest liability, and our only hope for survival.

First off...have you guys SEEN that cover? Yes? Well go ahead and look at it again. Because it's awesome, and it's perfect for the story.
  • Partials was overall a pretty fun read! It started out a little bit slow for me and a little "info-dumpy" which is what kept me from rating it 5 stars, but as the story went on I really started to enjoy it. The author is definitely a master of plot-weaving, and creating some awesome twists that I know have helped to give this book the hype it deserves.
  •  I loved Kira's character. She is so tough and a little too headstrong at times, and she's the type of heroine you just can't help but love. She's so smart, and completely determined to discover the truth behind the Partials and the Virus that is killing babies. She wants to save the future, but it means taking big risks to do it; risks that not even her government is willing to take.
  • The virus aspect of PARTIALS was super creepy, believable, and very well explained. I think if I were thrown into that world, I'd be totally paranoid, and the author made that feeling easy to come by. Well done! Which leads me to the fact that...
  • The world Dan Wells created was very very cool. I loved how he described things, and how the science of the entire Partials thing was so easy to understand for people who don't typically like scifi.
  • This is a great ready for ANYONE. It's got romance, adventure, and it stands out quite a bit from the typical dystopian stuff out there right now. If you're looking for something heavy scifi but heavy fun, go grab a copy of Partials!

  2. PARTIALS is book one of a YA post-apocalyptic/somewhat dystopian trilogy by well known adult author Dan Wells. I haven't read any of his books before, but what can I say - I read the premise and immediately realized that this was going to be Children of Men meets Battlestar Galactica meets hard science fiction. If the synopsis were a man, I'd marry him sight unseen. This is a great mix of themes, but at the same time, I was wary - concepts like this often turn into bad husbands who become full of their intellect and forget to do the dishes.
