Waiting On Wednesday!! + Review of The Pledge!

The Pledge (The Pledge, #1)

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of The Pledge...and it is AMAZING. My review is below! Check it out, and add this book to your TBR list on goodreads! I promise you will not be disappointed!!

Releases Nov 15, 2011 by Margaret K. McElderry

In the violent country of Ludania, the language you speak determines what class you are, and there are harsh punishments if you forget your place—looking a member of a higher class in the eye can result in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina (Charlie for short) can understand all languages, a dangerous ability she’s been hiding her whole life. Her only place of release is the drug-filled underground club scene, where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. There, she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy who speaks a language she’s never heard, and her secret is almost exposed. Through a series of violent upheavals, it becomes clear that Charlie herself is the key to forcing out the oppressive power structure of
her kingdom….

My Review

This book was AMAZING. Kim Derting is a favorite author of mine, and she only upped herself in my list after this read.

It starts out like any normal dystopian, but after you get a few chapters in, you start to see just how different it is from the genre. I only WISH I could give away the secrets and all the different levels of this book, but I can't give anything else away without ruining the joy that a reader will get from folding back the pieces of this book.

There's fantasy, scifi, thriller...so many awesome elements in this one. I adore the main characters, Max and Charlaina, and their love story completely rocks my world. There is so much tension in this book, so many secrets, and it is just so AWESOME for fans of dystopia/fantasy. The book is told in several points of view, and it gives the reader a chance to see into different parts of the world.

Charlie's 'gift' is just so cool, and her little sister's character is awesome to see grow over the course of the novel.
Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about this one, and I am SO EXCITED for the rest of this trilogy to be released. I'll be shoving this book into everyone's face for the next several months. I read this one in a day. It was impossible to put down.

So...what's YOUR Waiting on Wednesday?!

  8. Thank you so much for stopping by and comment on my blog and for sharing your WoW! I almost picked this one for my WoW this week, but I try to go in order. =)

I'll probably pick it sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I haven't read anything by Kimberly Derting yet, but I do want to read all the books she has out currently.

I've been wanting to read The Pledge soooo badly! I was going to request an ARC, but I knew it was too late. I've been requesting it at the library, but my local library got cut, so they may not order it. =( Boo!

Thank you for sharing your review! I'm glad you liked it. =)

  13. The language aspect really sounds original, plus the title is immensely intriguing because of the questions it brings to mind. What pledge? Why is said pledge so important that it is present in the title? Very intelligent author. The multi-POV only increases my anticipation, too.
