Why Dystopians will never die.
I am obsessed with Dystopian YA's. Why? Because they are just THAT CLOSE to reality! I have this strange feeling that we are living in our own sort of Dystopia today with all the horrible things that are going on around the world.
Lately, Dystopians seem to be the only new books coming out...and that is TOTALLY fly with me! (I'm a little biased, because I wrote a Dystopian YA!) I like books that suck me in to the point where I feel like I'm living in another world for those wonderful 350 pages.
There's talk going around lately about how Dystopians are going to be coming to an end...and I have to disagree. People want to read things that feel real. They want books that make them want to rip their hearts out and throw them across the room (props to Cherie for that line). Dystopians, with their star-crossed forbidden love themes do this. Think Delirium. Matched. The Hunger Games.
These books have lasting messages. They are about love. About finding one's self. About adventure, defying worlds full of walls. Dystopians will never die.
What do you think?
I agree- Dystopians are pretty awesome! Thanks for the new follow today..and Im following back...:D
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!! I love the whole Dystopian genre and how real it feels, and how close it is to us. I think this genre will be here to stay.
ReplyDeleteI love how you have stated that you feel that we are living in our own Dystopian world, I couldn't agree more.

we totally are! i'm so happy you agree kelseyanne! =] i can't get enough of dystopians!!
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but that fear of the future will always get writers to come up with interesting doomsday scenarios. Viva dystopia!
ReplyDeleteI tried to comment before but I think the computer ate it. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI have to agree and I do think we are living in our own dystopia right now.
I think so long as the story is original and unique, with a gripping hook and unforgettable characters, dystopians will be around for a long time. (I think this is true for almost any genre type, actually. There are only so many types of tales. It's a unique twist on what's already been done that makes a story stand out)
ReplyDeleteI haven't really read any dystopias! I started The Hunger Games but found it so boring I couldn't read on. I'm awful, aren't I?!
ReplyDeleteI really agree with you, even though I haven't read a lot of books in this genre. :)
ReplyDeleteI torally agree that Dystopians are going no where! Think about The Giver. My students love that book when I hand it to them!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a good dystopian and agree they won't go away but they aren't my favorite. I usually end up sad that the human race could get so dysfunctional like we never stopped to see what's wrong and fix it.
ReplyDeleteNew follower. I love dystopian fiction, have for a while, and it's only getter stronger at the moment. Wither is great. Divergent is fabulous, and I'm just about to start Bumped. They are thought provoking and unique, usually with a strong message to do something about the things around you that are wrong.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! Dystopian novels will never die!... long live dystopian novels!! :)haha! You wrote a YA dystopian novel? OMG! Congrats! let me tell you that i'll be the first in line to buy/read your book ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree! At first, I was really hesitant to read a dystopian. But then I finally read the Hunger Games and loved it and then realized I had read a dystopian series before that and loved it. (The Uglies Trilogy by Scott Westerfeld)
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to read a lot more lately. :) Got A LOT of them on my list.
I don't think dystopians will be going anywhere anytime soon. They are just too popular and too much fun to read.
After reading this I want to go out and buy every dystopia novel you have listed. I have yet to read one and I feel like i'm missing out. Delirium has been on my wishlist for a while maybe I'll bump it up now. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThankyou for checking out my blog =) Now following your blog as well :):)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for bumped, wither and possession!!!!
