Book Covers- Make or Break?

Here's some of my favorite all time book covers, both old and upcoming. These books COMPLETELY sold it for me, made me pick it up, read the back cover, and go buy it. So what do you guys think? What book covers sold it for you, even if the rest of the writing wasn't quite so intriguing? (the writing in most of these went above and beyond perfection for me, though!)

I won't post the book covers that didn't quite connect with me, because this blog is negativity free! However, you guys can probably catch my drift on what sells me and what doesn't!

What do you look for in a cover? What are some of your favorites?

  1. Rich and Mad by William Nichols (people kissing in a british phone booth? awesome! If they made this a poster, I'd own it), Halo by Alexandra A., Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves, Torment by Lauren Kate (sadly, I haven't read any of these books yet, but I own them). Ones I've read: City of Glass by Cassandra Clare, Nevermore by Kelley Creagh, and Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Those are my favorites that I could think of at the top of my head.

  2. Oh I love the cover of the Water Wars!
Book covers are definitely a big seller for me. Even if I'm buying books online I'll buy the edition with the cover I like best.

  3. I notice a lack of girls in sweeping prom dresses that don't factor anywhere in the plot (that'd be a wedding dress on Wither), unobscured macro beauty shots of girl's faces, and the color pink. :D You and I have very similar taste in book covers!

  5. I'm such a sucker for a good cover! You've got some great one listed. I like the simple beauty that seems to be a great trend among YA novels lately.

I have to say I judge books by their covers, luckly Ive been going outside that boxs and finding some wonderful books. But I can say the cover for Graceling and Fire were amazing and two of my all time favorites!

  8. Covers with pretty dressed people tend to catch my eye a lot. Though most of the time it ended up being a paranormal, which is a genre I'm not always too fond of.

  9. You picked some gorgeous ones! Wither is probably my absolute favorite followed very closely by The Water Wars and Matched:) I'm always the type to pick up and buy a book based on the cover, I just can't help it!

  12. Thanks for the follow! I'm your new follower. I've only read Hunger Games but The Water Wars and Wither both look amazing! I will easily buy a book for the cover alone.
